Two afternoons of strings, unamplified.
A quiet programme in a room built for it: concert grand, no amplification, and an audience close enough to hear the bows.
Both afternoons sold out by the Thursday, which has not happened here before, and the second was moved to the larger room to take another eighty seats.
The unamplified programme held up: the quartet played the full set without a single reinforcement channel, and the room stayed quiet enough that it worked from the back row. The one thing to fix next time is the interval, which ran twenty minutes long and pushed the closing piece past five.
Worth repeating in the spring, with the interval held to fifteen minutes.
